Using the comb during labor can relieve pain in several ways.

  • The comb can be used as a tactile distraction tool during contractions, helping shift our attention away from the pain.
  • By pressing the comb on certain acupuncture points, we can stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.
  • In addition, gentle combing movements can help relax tense muscles and reduce tension, which reduces the intensity of cramps and the pain that comes with them.
  • Finally, the comb can be used on pressure points on the head and scalp, which can have a calming effect and help make pain easier to manage.

Using the comb during labor can be a valuable tool for pain relief and helping a woman have a greater sense of control during childbirth.

Everyone needs to find ways of relieving and coping with labour pain that feel right and acceptable to them.

Description

How to properly grip your comb (Lao Gong)?

Make a fist. Where your ring finger lands, place the comb. This is your Lao Gong point.

Grip the comb at your Lao Gong point, with your thumb providing support, and press down. When using during labor, make sure to release your grip between contractions and switch hands when possible.

After birth, use the comb by squeezing it at the same point for 30-60 sec at a time, then you can take a 1-2 min break. Also switch hands when possible.
