What is your idea of a perfect birth? Unassisted? Giving birth with a midwife at home or in a birth center? A medically managed birth, or perhaps a C-section? And what happens after the birth? What would you do with the placenta? Leave it as medical waste, eat it, or bury it with a tree in front of your house?

The film follows four pregnant women, each with her own idea of a perfect birth. 37-year-old Jo plans to give birth to her baby completely alone on board her boat, without the help of any medical professional. In contrast, 34-year-old Anna has opted for a C-section without medical indication. She is afraid of the pain, so she wants all available medication and to feel nothing. She decided to give birth at The Portland in London. In Devon, 33-year-old Lisa wants to have a lotus birth—the baby’s umbilical cord is not cut and remains fully connected to the placenta even after birth; she will keep it fresh by sprinkling it with salt, rose petals, and lavender oil. 35-year-old Kati from Manchester will blend hers into a smoothie to consume for several days after birth, as she believes it will help her with a fast (emotional) postpartum recovery.

Despite the confused and worried looks from friends and family, each chooses her own path. I think it is very important to emphasize this. THE WOMAN CHOOSES the path herself…! Do they give in to the pressure of their surroundings? Or do they stick to their primary planned path? Watch and see…
