Labour is an extremely physically demanding event, so it’s even more important for a woman to stay properly hydrated. Choose your recipe for a hydration drink that will refresh you during labour, keep you well hydrated, and give you the strength to keep going. The key ingredients are lemon, honey, salt, water, and minerals.
- 1 L of water
- 1/3 cup of honey
- 1/3 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 2 crushed calcium tablets OR a teaspoon of baking soda
- a pinch of cayenne pepper
Calcium will dissolve more easily in warm water. You can use Ca/Mg/vit D (effervescent) tablets if you have them at home, or simply a teaspoon of baking soda.
- 4 cups of water
- 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of honey (or more to taste)
- a few drops of concentrated mineral drops (optional) – you can also use another form of minerals
- rescue remedy (optional)
It’s important to add salt to your hydration drink. Both drinks are also suitable after birth.
